The Holy Wayfarer St. Benedict Joseph Labre
The man of prayer or better yet,
PRAYER embodied in a man.
"He was Holiness itself" Pope Leo XIII at our patron's canonization
Even though our saint suffered from a severe mental illness,
he lived continually in the presence of the Blessed Trinity
through his profound prayer life. In the end, God rewarded him
for his love and healed him. Our patron was filled with very special gifts.
Full of love, he was compelled to share his spirituality with the world.
He walked 20,000 miles in 13 years all to honor Jesus and his Mother.
Now we want to share him with you!
The Pictures below are from Sancta Maria Dei Monti Church in Rome.
His Tomb is located in this Church on the left hand side.
Most of the reflections on St. Benedict Joseph Labre
that will be posted over the coming months were taken from,
"Life of the Venerable Servant of God , Benedict Joseph Labre",
translated in 1850. The original was written in Italian
by Don Antonio Maria Coltraro, a Roman Catholic Priest.
It was originally published in Rome in 1807.
We chose this book because, "it is taken almost exclusively from his processes,
even down to the minutest details, and on the side you will observe,
they are referred to in nearly every page." (preface of book)
We were privileged to borrow this book from one of the
Trappist Monasteries in the United States.
(Every Trappist Community in the United States belongs to our Spiritual Support.)
We wish to thank them for making this reflection on our
patron's life possible.
